It comes when couple of years ago we need to get classic mantel and all on the market were tremendously costly. So we went thinking out of the box and made it from antique-looking hutch, very classic and "very english", as other people said. I have my own experience to get mantel on gas fireplace by DIY. The advantage is the incredible choice of finishing that can be appropriate for any design style. Just add the fire.
